How To Measure a Good Retreat – The Stay Scale

Introducing The Stay Scale

Seen. Experienced. Measured.

When it comes to retreats, everyone has expectations. Some of us seek deep stillness. Others thrive on structure, connection, or adventure. So… how do you know if a retreat is actually good? At lumora & Co, we believe a great retreat doesn’t need to be perfect — it needs to feel aligned.

That’s why we created The Stay Scale — a thoughtful, standardized-yet-intuitive framework for evaluating retreat experiences. It’s the soul-centered alternative to traditional reviews.
It’s your kind of clarity.

What’s Inside The Stay Scale?

Core Metrics (Rated 1–5)

These foundational elements are measured across all retreats:

  • Overall Experience
A holistic summary that considers the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual impact of the stay.
  • Pre-Retreat Communication
How clear, timely, and supportive was the information shared before arrival?
  • Arrival & Check-In
Was the arrival experience welcoming, seamless, and well-organized?
  • Room & Accommodations
How did the lodging meet expectations around comfort, cleanliness, and fit for the experience?
  • Food & Nourishment
How were the meals in terms of quality, variety, dietary accommodations, and presentation?
  • Host Presence & Support
Did the host feel engaged, available, and energetically grounded throughout?
  • Group Dynamics
How well did the group connect, communicate, and co-exist in shared space?
  • Activity & Schedule Flow
Was the schedule well-paced, coherent, and responsive to group needs?
  • Rest vs. Activity Ratio
Did the retreat offer a healthy balance of movement, stillness, and downtime?
  • Local/Cultural Immersion
Did the experience honor and incorporate local culture, nature, or community?
  • Value for Cost
Did the retreat deliver what was promised, relative to what was paid?

The Personality Metrics

We also assess the energetic tone of each retreat — because alignment isn’t one-size-fits-all. These aren’t ratings of good or bad — they’re signals to help you find the right fit.

  • Solo vs. Group Friendly
Does the retreat support solitude, community, or both? what’s right for you.
  • Energy Level
From tranquil to high-vibe — how lively or restful is the pace?
  • Luxe Factor
Are the touches refined and elegant, or minimalist and grounded?
  • Nourishment Style
Is the food clean and health-focused or rich and indulgent?
  • Activity Style
Are the activities gentle and meditative or dynamic and adventurous?
  • Tech & Connectivity
Is there a strong digital presence or a true opportunity to unplug?
  • Age Range
Is the crowd youthful, seasoned, or multi-generational?
